Our Approach

Two Kinds of Staircase Work, Looked At Honestly

Staircase enquiries fall into two different categories, and the right answer for each is different. Some staircases are structurally sound but look dated — pine spindles, a handrail that has lost its shine, treads that have seen twenty years of feet. Others have one specific fault — a squeak, a loose spindle, a newel post that rocks — and need that fault put right rather than a wider change.

We treat these as separate pieces of work with their own scope and pricing, rather than steering every enquiry toward the bigger job. If your staircase just needs fixing, we tell you that, quote for the repair, and leave the rest alone. If you want a genuine transformation, we scope that properly too.

Beyond the balustrade and treads, staircases are also where engineered flooring and tread cladding meet — carrying a hallway floor finish up the stairs, or fitting a hardwood or engineered overlay to existing treads and risers so the staircase reads as part of the same floor. We carry out this kind of work as part of a wider staircase or flooring project, and a dedicated page covering stair-tread flooring and cladding in more detail is planned for a later addition to the site.

All staircase work, whatever the scope, starts with a free site visit across Berkshire, Surrey and South Buckinghamshire, followed by a fixed-price written quote. There is no charge for coming out to look and advise.

A Note on Flooring

Engineered Flooring and Stair-Tread Cladding

Where a hallway or landing is being fitted with engineered flooring, carrying that same finish up the staircase — overlaying the existing treads and risers rather than leaving a visible change between floor and stairs — gives a considerably more finished result than treating the two as separate jobs.

We carry out this tread cladding and overlay work alongside our staircase upgrades and as part of wider flooring projects. A dedicated page covering engineered flooring and stair-tread cladding in full detail is coming as part of a later addition to the site — in the meantime, mention it at your free site visit and we will cost it alongside whatever else the staircase needs.
