Doors

One Trade, Every Kind of Door

“Doors” covers more ground than it sounds like. We hang internal doors, fit FD30 and FD60 fire doorsets, repair and replace external door frames, linings and thresholds, and fit the ironmongery that makes any of those actually work day to day — hinges, latches, locks, handles and closers.

Two pages below cover the detail: internal doors, and fire doors. Where you need external door or frame repair — a forced lock, a split frame, a threshold that has rotted — our existing burglary damage repairs page already covers door and frame splicing, re-hanging and lock replacement in depth, so we point you there rather than duplicate it. For weathering, rot or settlement rather than a break-in, see our external door repairs page, and for general frame, lining and threshold replacement or ironmongery fitting, see our door frames, linings & thresholds page.

Whatever the job, the approach is the same: a free assessment visit, a fixed itemised written quote covering the door, any frame or lining work, and the hardware specified — agreed before any work starts. We are a sole trader, not VAT-registered, with no workshop or showroom, and we work as a team rather than one person doing everything, so a whole-house door job and a single fire door replacement are both scheduled properly rather than squeezed in.

For a closer look at this kind of work in detail, see our internal door hanging project, or browse all door projects.

What This Work Looks Like

Door Carpentry Across Berkshire

A few examples of the kind of door carpentry covered under this heading.

General Door Carpentry

Door Hanging, Frames, Linings & Ironmongery

Beyond the two pages above, a good amount of our door work is general carpentry rather than a named “product” — re-hanging a door that has dropped on its hinges, replacing a rotted threshold, fitting a new lining into an opening, or swapping worn ironmongery for something better. Our door frames, linings & thresholds page covers this work in depth. We fit this alongside internal door and fire door work, or as a standalone job.

Ironmongery fitting covers hinges, latches, locks, handles, and door closers — matched to the door and, where a fire door is involved, matched to the rating the manufacturer specifies. We would rather tell you a hinge just needs adjusting than sell you a new door you do not need.
