Our Approach
One Floor, Fitted Properly From Subfloor to Skirting
Engineered flooring is a layered timber product — a hardwood veneer bonded to a stable plywood or softwood core — built to cope with the heating and humidity swings of a normal home better than solid timber. We fit it across Berkshire, Surrey and South Buckinghamshire, from a single room to a full ground floor, including the subfloor work, thresholds and skirting that make the difference between a floor that looks right on day one and one that still looks right five years on.
Most jobs start with the subfloor, not the flooring itself. A concrete slab that is not level, or a timber subfloor with movement in it, will telegraph through engineered boards however good they are, so we check and prepare the base before anything is laid. Where a run meets a different floor covering — tile in a kitchen, carpet on a landing — we fit a threshold strip sized to the step between the two. Skirting is fitted last, scribed to the new floor rather than left with a gap covered in sealant.
We also fit engineered flooring and cladding onto staircases, as a material-led alternative to refurbishing the existing timber treads. That work has its own page, linked below, because the substrate preparation, nosing profiles and interaction with the handrail and balusters are different enough from flat-floor fitting to deserve a proper explanation.
Alongside new flooring, we also repair and replace individual floorboards and fix squeaky or sagging timber floors — a smaller, more targeted job than a full engineered flooring installation. See squeaky floor repairs and floorboard replacement for that repair work, or mention it when you call or fill in the form below and we will advise whether your floor needs replacing or simply repairing.
We are a sole trader, not a limited company, and we are not VAT-registered. There is no workshop or showroom to visit — every job starts with a measuring visit at your property, followed by a fixed, itemised written quote before any work is booked in. Cost depends mainly on floor area, subfloor condition, whether an old floor covering needs removing first, and the flooring specification you choose.

What We Do
Engineered Flooring Services
Room and Whole-Floor Fitting
Engineered oak, herringbone, chevron and plank flooring fitted room by room or throughout a whole ground floor, laid to run square with the walls or set at an angle where the room calls for it.
Subfloor Preparation
Concrete and timber subfloors are checked for level, moisture and movement before a single board goes down. Self-levelling compound, ply overlay or an underlay suited to the subfloor is specified as part of the quote, not added as a surprise later.
Thresholds Between Rooms
Where engineered flooring meets tile, carpet or a different flooring run, we fit a threshold strip or reducer sized to the height difference, so the join sits flush and does not become a trip point.
Skirting Fitted After Flooring
Skirting is scribed and fitted once the new floor is down, so the gap between board and wall is covered properly rather than papered over with a bead of sealant.
Engineered Flooring on Stairs
Treads, risers and landings clad in engineered flooring material as an alternative to a carpentry-only tread refurbishment. This is involved enough that it has its own page — see Engineered Staircase Flooring below.
