Bespoke Under-Window Bench Seating with Integrated Deep Storage Drawers

Seat height for a comfortable window bench is 420–450mm from floor level — the same as a standard dining chair. The seat depth should be a minimum of 450mm for comfortable sitting and 500–550mm for use as a day-bed style reading space. The bench should run the full width between the window architraves, or if no architraves are present, between structural elements. A padded upholstered top is by far the most comfortable finish; a solid MDF top with a removable cushion is practical and easier to maintain.

Deep drawers under a window bench can carry a very high volume of storage — particularly for seasonal items, children\'s toys, sports equipment, or bedding in a guest room. For a bench height of 450mm, the usable internal drawer depth is approximately 300–320mm. Drawers on full-extension runners are specified so the full drawer contents are visible and accessible. Push-to-open fronts maintain a clean, handleless aesthetic. A 1500mm wide bench with two large drawers accommodates the equivalent of three standard underbed storage boxes.
